Filled with early day tools from the 16th century, the Blacksmith Shop at the Mennonite Heritage Village in Steinbach, Manitoba is an interesting place to explore. Situated around the shop, replicas of the forge and various tools are on display which were used daily by the blacksmith.
Located near the livery barn, the Blacksmith Shop was one of the most important places during the pioneer days where various jobs were completed. The blacksmith shop was an extremely hard laboured job where ploughshares were sharpened, horseshoes were made and old machinery was repaired while newer stuff was being built. Many blacksmith shops started to lose business as tractors and new machinery were brought in and the only way this shop could stay alive was by expanding on their tools, welding skills and changing with the times.
Forty acres makes up the Mennonite Heritage Village where tourists can roam about the village streets and browse through the different shops and buildings. Memorials, barns, houses, schools, sawmills, stores, the blacksmith shop and many antique displays are just a few of the places to see while visiting the village in Steinbach, Manitoba.
