The red and white striped structure located 0.8 miles north of Whipple Point on Brier Island in Nova Scotia, Canada is known as the Brier Island Lighthouse. Whipple Point is the Southeast extreme of the island and the lighthouse is a necessity for mariners around these waters.
The lighthouse stands 60 feet high with three red bands and a bright red light on top along with a fog signal which blasts twice every minute in unison with the light. Brier Island can often be blanketed in fog and this lighthouse is one of many on the island as there is one per mile.
There have been 57 shipwrecks which have been recorded around Brier Island as well as some which are not even known about. While touring the Digby Neck and Islands Scenic Drive in Nova Scotia, Canada, the Brier Island Lighthouse is a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the coastal scenery.
