Three yellowish/brown colored goslings rest on the shores of the marsh, clearly paying no attention to the visitors looking on from the Marsh Boardwalk in Point Pelee National Park in Leamington, Ontario.
When the adult Canada Geese make their nest, it is usually along the elevated shores of streams, lakes, ponds and marshes where the eggs are laid in a small indentation in the ground, blanketed with material and down. Mature geese are usually coupled together for life with the female laying between 3 and 8 eggs which are tended to by both parents, more so the female.
The parents are very protective over their goslings and will become violent if they fear danger to their family. Around 6 to 9 weeks of age, these goslings will develop wings which are apt for flying but remain with the adults until after the spring migration.
The Great Lakes has an extremely large population of Canada Geese, many which come to nest in Point Pelee National Park.
