While exploring the courtyard at the Port Royal National Historic Site near Annapolis Royal in Nova Scotia, Canada, one will find a well in the centre of the courtyard which was a necessity for the people living in the seventeenth century. The well water was used for cooking, cleaning, laundry and personal hygiene and was shared by the people who lived and worked from these homes.
