CSS Acadia Ship Halifax Waterfront Nova Scotia Canada

Docked along the waterfront in the downtown core of Halifax, Nova Scotia in Canada, sits the CSS Acadia Ship, Canada'a first hydrographic vessel.

The CSS Acadia ship docked along the waterfront in the downtown region of the City of Halifax, Nova Scotia gives people a chance to see the first hydrographic surveying and oceanographic research ship. Serving Canada from 1913-1969, the CSS Acadia was commissioned twice into the military service for the Royal Canadian Navy during both the world wars.

Today, the CSS Acadia remains docked along the waterfront of Halifax, Nova Scotia and is the only ship who served the Royal Canadian Navy during these wars which remains afloat. Built by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson in England, the CSS Acadia was launched in 1913 making its first voyage in July.

From May to October, the CSS Acadia is open to visitors where people can learn of the history of the ship and the crew which served onboard. Every 5 years, the ship is towed across the harbour to be inspected and repainted to ensure her beauty stays intact.
