Flags remembering heroes and signs marking the location of the Wood Mountain Post Provincial Historic Park in Saskatchewan, Canada are on display at the entrance. From 1874 to 1918, the North West Mounted Police patrolled the area along the United States border and kept tabs on whiskey traders, horse thieves and cattle rustlers.
After passing through the entrance at Wood Mountain Post Provincial Park and reading all the signs and flags, visitors can tour two reconstructed buildings, both having displays throughout. There are interpretive staff around the park which will guide you through these structures and tell stories of the early days. One story revolves around Major James Walsh of the North West Mounted Police and his negotiations with the Sioux Chief who brought Saskatchewan, Canada 5,000 followers after the Battle of Little Bighorn.
The park is open every day from June 1st to the middle of August for visitors to learn of the history of the North West Mounted Police at the Wood Mountain Post Provincial Park.
