Bears are the largest carnivores in North America. Though heavily built, they can run fast and are agile climbers. Bears are shy, solitary animals that usually avoid human contact. Bears can be attracted to food and garbage, which may bring about their demise: “A Fed Bear is a Dead Bear” as the saying goes.
Black Bears are typically black with a brownish muzzle. There are several other colour variants, including brown, cinnamon, and the rare white Kermode or “Spirit” Bear, found only in the Kermode Islands off the Pacific Coast. Black Bears occur in heavily forested areas, but have become well adapted to living near human habitation. ...
