The sign at the entrance to Hecla Provincial Park in Manitoba, Canada is decorated with a replica of the lighthouse which watches over the waters of Lake Winnipeg. The Gull Harbour Lighthouse standing today was first constructed in 1926 with the previous one being built in 1898. The lighthouse stands at 27 feet high and is a white, square, pyramidal wooden tower which is easily reached by a walking trail through the park.
Hecla Provincial Park is located on Hecla Island, one of many islands which fringe the east and west shores of Lake Winnipeg. Hecla Provincial Park is a beautiful place to visit which was established in August of 1969 but it was not open to the public until 1975.
Hecla Island is a laid back community where wildlife is seen regularly and is one of many islands which make up Hecla Provincial Park. Other islands considered as part of the park are Black Island, Goose Island, Deer Island, Punk Island and Little Punk Island.
