The Lake Audy Bison Enclosure in Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba, Canada is home to a herd of around 30 plains bison. This special area has a healthy prairie ecosystem and was once home to hundreds of Bison making it the ideal location for the reintroduction of the Bison.
For many years, the plains bison had disappeared from these lands after they once covered the landscape as stampedes thundered through. The bison were destroyed in a short period of time leaving the landscape scattered with carcasses and bones.
In 1931, a herd of 20 bison were brought here which failed as the entire population contacted tuberculosis. They were soon replaced with 10 plains bison from Elk Island National Park and today the generations continue on.
