Lake Ontario Sailboat Toronto City Ontario

The stillness of Lake Ontario is interrupted as a sailboat motors out onto Lake Ontario near the city of Toronto, Ontario in Canada.

While the winds are calm, a sailboat leaves the harbour out onto Lake Ontario from near the city of Toronto using its engine to get around. A small boat is towed behind the sailboat following its wake in the glass like appearance of the lake.

Lake Ontario is the smallest of the five Great Lakes in North America covering a surface area of approximately 7,540 square miles. The length of the lake is 193 miles and at its widest point, 53 miles across.

At one time, Lake Ontario was heavily polluted until the 1960's and 1970's when a massive cleanup took place. The lake has now returned to its original beauty where sport fishing, sailing, kayaking and pleasure boating are daily summer time activities.
