Standing proud amongst the blue sky and white clouds on the top of the dome on the Legislative Building in the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada, is the Golden Boy statue. From the feet on the statue to the top of the torch, the gilded statue stands 5.25 meters high overlooking the City of Winnipeg.
Symbolizing its importance as a provider of natural resources and economic opportunities, the Golden Boy statue faces north at a height of 250 feet from the grounds of the Legislative Building. Sculpted by a man from Paris named Charles Gardet in 1918, the Golden Boy statue was placed atop the dome of the Legislative Building on November 1st in 1919.
Being repainted in the 1940's in gold and blanketed in a thin layer of 24 karat gold in 1951, it was not until 2002 that the statue needed repairs and was taken off the dome until repaired and then returned to its home atop the Legislative Building.
