A close up picture of the lightkeepers building at the Point Amour Lighthouse along the Labrador Coastal Drive in Southern Labrador, Canada, shows the details of the historic building. This building along with others located here, once housed the lightkeepers as well as some being used as an oil shed, telegraph station and a fog alarm.
The Point Amour Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada and was first lit in 1858 to aid mariners in their travels around Southern Labrador. Still operational today, the lighthouse has been partly restored to the 1850's and doors on either side of the lightkeepers building allowed it to be accessed by different residents.
The buildings and lighthouse were declared as a Provincial Historic Site which is now open to the public where they can browse the various exhibits and climb 128 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Here the scenery of the coastal shores of Southern Labrador is amazing and well worth seeing while traveling the Labrador Coastal Drive.
