Standing proudly on the south grounds of the Legislative Building in the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba is a statue of Louis A. Riel. The statue was erected in front of the Legislative Building to enhance the beauty of the incredibly designed plaza by the Manitoba Metis Federation.
Louis Riel was born in the Red River Settlement in a community known as Rupert's Land in Manitoba, Canada in 1844. In November of 1885, Louis A. Riel was sentenced to death for treason and was executed.
Louis Riel was considered to be a Canadian rebel and traitor in the eyes of many while others considered him to hero and to this day, his statue stands on the grounds of the Legislative Building in Winnipeg City in Manitoba.
This statue was unveiled in May of 1996 and was created by a Winnipeg artist named Miguel Joyal. There have been many controversies over the various statues of Louis A. Riel and is still an ongoing topic throughout Canada.
