The architecture of this stone building which houses the Maison Chevalier located along Marche Champlain in Quebec City, Canada, is highlighted by the red wooden shutters surrounding the window and the blossoming flowers. The building and the window design date back to the middle of the 18th century but the window and its shutters have been redone and repainted since its original construction date in 1752.
The architecture on Maison Chevalier reflects the classical French design which was widespread in the urban areas in New France. Jean-Baptiste Chevalier was a ship owner who built this structure which was run as an inn throughout the 19th century. It was in 1965 when the Quebec government restored the Maison Chevalier and it was reopened as a museum.
While touring through this historic building, people will find the exhibits are written in French but there are guidebooks in English to make the translation easier. The Maison Chevalier along the Marche Champlain in Quebec City, Canada is free to the public to tour through all year with shorter hours during the winter months.
