Manitoba Photos

Photographs of Manitoba include images of Polar Bears from Churchill, cultural and historic highlights from the capital city of Winnipeg, and much more.

Manitoba is bordered by Saskatchewan to the west and Ontario to the east. Despite the infamous winter cold, Manitoba offers unforgettable wilderness, friendly people, and vibrant cities.

Churchill, an arctic seaport on Hudson’s Bay, is situated in the northeast corner of the province. Photographers, nature lovers and birdwatchers come to Churchill to view Polar Bears, birds and other wildlife. Polar Bears, one of Canada’s most endangered mammals, congregate at Churchill in the autumn.

Manitoba has large lakes and wild rivers. Boreal forest covers northern parts of the province. The prairies of southern Manitoba are the province’s agricultural heartland. Canada’s easternmost prairie province, Manitoba is a significant producer of wheat and other crops.

The capital city of Winnipeg is a thriving center, with many attractions. One can take in a performance of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet or visit the Manitoba Museum. The Forks is one of the cities popular markets and gathering places. The Royal Canadian Mint produces all the coins in circulation in Canada, and is well worth a visit.

The Winnipeg area has great beaches, such as Grand Beach on the shores of Lake Winnipeg. Winnipeg also has many heritage sites, including Riel House, a National Historic Site that marks the former family home of Louis Riel, Metis leader and founder of Manitoba. The Saint-Boniface Museum, Winnipeg’s oldest building, was originally built for nuns but is now a museum celebrating Manitoba’s history.

A short drive north of Winnipeg is the historic Hudson’s Bay Company trading post of Lower Fort Garry. This is the only stone fur trading post still intact in North America.
