The Acadian flag flaps in the breeze which sweeps across the landscape where the Grand Pre National Historic Site in the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia is located. The flag is one which the Acadians are extremely proud of and is flown at full mast as it is symbolic of their cultural survival representing Acadians worldwide.
Towering above the Acadian flag is the bell tower of the Memorial Church which was built in the 1920's on the ruins of the Acadian Church. The church which stands today is the second one as the first one was destroyed during the deportation of the men and boys who were held as prisoners until the ships arrived to deport them in 1755. It is a reconstruction of the original church and when the railway deeded a piece of land and the money, the construction of the Memorial Church began in the spring of 1922. Later that year the exterior and the bell tower were complete but the interior was not totally done until the year of 1930.
While visiting the Grand Pre National Historic Site in Nova Scotia, Canada, the Memorial church is one of the best attractions where it shows of its beautiful architecture.
