A police car remains idle outside the RCMP Academy in the city of Regina in Saskatchewan, Canada allowing visitors to have a close look at what is driven by members of the police force. The establishment of the RCMP was in 1873 and mounties did not start using cars as a means of transportation until 1916.
The police cars have become more stylistic than in the early days, as the computer graphics and designs are far more detailed with official markings and stripes. The RCMP currently has a land transport fleet of 5,600 cars, 2,350 trucks, 34 motorcycles, 481 snowmobiles, 181 all terrain vehicles, 1 gas railway car, 27 tractors and 3 buses, all of which are driven by specially trained people.
