Prime Minister Home Woodside National Historic Site Ontario

Visitors to Woodside National Historic Site in Kitchener, Ontario can visit the historic home where Prime Minister William Lyon Mackenzie King lived as a child.

Open to the public, this building on display at Woodside National Historic Site in Kitchener, Ontario, has been restored to its Victorian style dating back to the 1890's. As a boy, the longest serving Prime Minister, William Lyon Mackenize King, grew up in this home for 7 of his childhood years.

The home was originally built in 1853 by a British barrister, where he lived until he passed away in 1877. A variety of tenants then called this home, one which was the King family. It was named after them as some people organized the Mackenzie King Woodside Trust to save this complex from being destroyed in the early 1940's. King became the 10th Prime Minister of Canada and served from 1921 to 1930 and then from 1935 to 1948 and now visitors to Ontario can tour through his childhood home daily from the middle of May through to December.
