This Polar Bear has waited many months for the ice to become thick enough along the shores of the Hudson Bay in Churchill, Manitoba in order for him to catch a meal of Ringed Seal. After his catch, he carried the Ringed Seal to a frozen lake where he finds peace while eating the skin, fat and internal organs of the seal, leaving behind the meat for other scavengers.
There are very few animals which will attempt to interrupt this Polar Bear while eating his meal, but once he leaves the area around the frozen lake, many others will come in to feast on the remains. Ringed Seals are plentiful around the Hudson Bay, but until it is cold enough and the ice forms, they are unreachable unless one comes ashore.
Cleaning his paw and removing all the scraps of food, this Polar Bear will be content for a short while before hunting down his next meal. Tourists who come to Churchill, Manitoba for Polar Bear watching who are lucky enough to see this type of behavior may find this part of their trip rather gruesome, while others are fascinated by a Polar Bear and his survival techniques.
