Multiple directional signs outside the St. Catharine's Museum at the Welland Canals Centre in St. Catharine's, Ontario in Canada, create an interesting topic for visitors to the area. The directional signs display the distances to various ports from the viewing platforms at Lock 3 at the Welland Canals Centre which were built in 1829.
Each of the signs marks the mileage to these places while others have the kilometers as well. In the backdrop, a ship sits in Lock 3 which allows these vessels to move between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie. The ships are hoisted over the Niagara Escarpment so that they can continue their journey into the middle of the North American continent.
