The facade of the St. James United Church located in Centre Ville in Montreal, Quebec is in a Victorian neo-gothic architecture style similar to a medieval French cathedral. The interior is done in the "Akron style" which was unique throughout the Montreal area. The church is a national historic site of Canada and a heritage building where various religious services are held.
Built between 1887 and 1889, this historic building became the fourth home to the congregation which started out as 7 members in 1803. When it was first constructed, the St. James United Church was the largest Methodist church in Canada and was able to seat approximately 2,000 people.
Today, St. James United Church is still used for services, concerts, teas, dinners and special events hosted by the members of the church. On clear days, the sunlight glistens off the historic facade and the various stained glass windows and wooden doors leading into the building.
