From the window which surrounds the light on the Walton Lighthouse in Nova Scotia, Canada, the scenery is stunning as you overlook the beauty of the Minas Basin. The Walton Lighthouse is a wooden structure built in 1873 and stands 60 feet above the Minas Basin, once aiding ships into the Port of Walton.
The Walton Lighthouse become automated in the later years but was decommissioned in the late 1970's as shipping drastically declined from the Port of Walton. In 1991, the Walton Lighthouse was bought for its heritage property and was open to the public in 1992. Visitors can now wander around the lighthouse and enjoy the scenery of the Minas Basin in Nova Scotia from inside each window.
Situated at the southern part of the upper area of the Bay of Fundy, the Minas Basin is made up of intertidal mud and sand flats giving way to the water in certain areas where it channels around the landscape.
