Vibrant colors on the fishing boats fill the harbour in the town of Westport on Brier Island, Nova Scotia where they remain docked along the wharf on a sunny day. Brier Island is a beautiful place located along the coastal shores of Nova Scotia and was named after the Brier rose which grows rampant across this landscape.
Many visitors to Brier Island, Nova Scotia come here to partake in one of the many whale watching excursions where Pilot, Beluga, Sperm, Blue, Finback, Minke, Humpbacks or the North Atlantic Right Whales can be seen. Some days Westport Harbour can be filled with activity where whales are leaping about and fishing boats are heading out to sea while other days are very calm and peaceful.
Due to there being very few roads on Brier Island, the best way to see the area is by walking the winding gravel roads to the top of the cliffs. The waterway around the island has taken many lives over the years and located at different points, there are 3 lighthouses.
The population of the town of Westport is a little over 300 where a general store, gas service station, gifts shops, a post office and churches are found. A pristine getaway where one should plan on staying at least two days to fully enjoy Brier Island, Nova Scotia.
